Around 4000 protesters gathered in Mt Gambier on Thursday to tell Premier Jay Weatherill that the Government needed to listen to some sense on forestry privatisation.
Business across Mt Gambier closed their doors today so their staff could attend the rally.
Almost two years ago, the State Government decided to sell-off the harvesting rights to the state’s vast timber plantations in the South East.
The forestry industry directly and indirectly employs about 5000 people and accounts for almost 40 per cent of the region’s economic activity.
Minutes of Forestry SA board meetings released today showed that they had concerns about the privatisation of forests.
