Public Services around the country are being slashed with 40,000 public service jobs cut by conservative state governments in Queensland, NSW and Victoria. Meanwhile the commonwealth public service is struggling after a $2.4 billion Budget reduction and 4,200 jobs cut.
And if a Coalition government gets elected at the next federal election, they plan to slash a further $50 – 70 billion from publics services with a further 12,000 jobs to go.
But who will really suffer from these job cuts? The Community and Public Sector Union this week launched their “Cuts Hurt” campaign. Your Rights at Night spoke with Kerry Edsall from the Department of Human Services, - she is the CPSU Section Secretary.
